Inception of InRegalia
The roots of the band go quite a way back to 2004 – 2006 or so when I dreamt of forming a band. At the time, I was based in the US and was playing with a couple of bands which were doing covers exclusively. It took me quite some time to put things together though. By 2010, I came back to India from the US and settled in Mumbai and started looking for band members right away. It was quite a struggle for many reasons. It wasn’t until 2013 that the nucleus of the band started taking shape. The band was christened with the name ‘InRegalia’ after I proposed it to my former band mates. This was the best name I came up with out of probably 25 or so potential band names.
What made you put together InRegalia?
There are quite a few reasons. One, I always wanted to form a band that could play some ethnic stuff but yet be mainstream and radio friendly for the most part but not avant garde. That’s the fun part of this whole thing. Second, most importantly I love to create music and I don’t see myself as a singer songwriter type of a guy. And last but not the least, I’ve always been and am in awe of bands as a collective creative unit. It doesn’t matter what the genre is. As long as I enjoy what I’m listening to, I always try to get inspired.
Meaning of InRegalia
The intent of the music is to reflect a bit of ethnicity but at the same time capture the general energy of a typical rock band. The band name was originally intended to be ‘In Regalia’ as two separate words but somewhere along the line the space got omitted accidentally and since then it has stuck. And by the way the meaning of ‘In Regalia’ is befitting royalty (paraphernalia, clothing etc).
What is the goal of the band?
The goal of the band at this point is simple – Grow and have the music reach as many people as possible. We wouldn’t be where we are without our listeners and the ones who support us. However, the journey to the goal is pleasant and an adventure, and that's what keeps us going!
